Position Summary

Instructor - Health Science Clinical (FT)

Salary Schedule: Commensurate with education and experience according to Salary Schedule D1.

Scope of Responsibilities: Prepare and maintain nursing clinical objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

In addition to adhering to the general guidelines as specified by the Faculty/Staff Handbook, the Title III Grant, US Department of Education, Title III Project Director, Dean of Students, the President, and Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, responsibilities will include the following:

List Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Function in accordance with the philosophy, rules and regulations of the Health Science Nursing/Patient Care Technician Program, area hospitals, and clinical agencies.
  • Meet with nursing course coordinator/Patient Care Technician coordinator prior to first clinical rotation for orientation.
  • Prepare and maintain nursing clinical grades and clinical objectives.
  • Teach nursing students in clinical areas related to specific theory content areas.
  • Prepare students in the Patient Care Technician (PCT), Certified Nursing Assistant, EKG, and Phlebotomy courses for the clinical setting.
  • Prepares and plans adequately for effective classroom, laboratory or clinical instruction, ensuring that the lesson plan and presentation strategies are well prepared, the learning environment is optimal, and the instructional materials are in proper working order.
  • Performs/ supervises all aspects of lab instruction and maintenance.
  • Maintains accurate and timely records of students’ attendance and students’ academic grades, health files, and progress.
  • Following applicable requirements for Continuing Education Units
  • Performs and/or supervises lab setup and takedown for instructional purposes.
  • Supervisestudentsinclinicalareasinaccordancewithcourseandprogramobjectives.
  • Advise students academically
  • Administer and supervise test, assignments, and projects.
  • Supervise and evaluate student performance throughout the program.
  • Provide input into curriculum development, instructional methods, objectives, and philosophy.
  • Enforcing all classroom management policies and processes, including attendance taking and program-related dress code.
  • Develop and maintain a satisfactory relationship with area hospitals and agencies which provide clinical experiences for nursing students; communicating frequently with the Program Director(s) regarding clinical needs.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with students, faculty and staff of the nursing programs, the administration of the College and other units within the College.
  • Participate in activities of professional organizations and meeting mandatory continuing education requirements to maintain a registered nurse license in the state of Alabama.
  • ServeonCollegecommitteesandrepresentingnursingasrequestedbyProgram Director(s) and / or Administration.
  • Work well with others and show respect to all college constituents.
  • Complying with all federal, state, accreditation, and institutional policies and procedures.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Health Science Director, Dean of Instruction, and President.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's of Science Nursing degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Current single state or multistate unencumbered license as a registered nurse in the State of Alabama (Must be verified).
  • Experience as a registered nurse.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • AnunderstandingofandacommitmenttothephilosophyandmissionoftheAlabamaCommunityCollegeSystem.
  • Knowledgeable of educational strategies and subject matter in nursing
  • Experience in area of the assigned clinical rotation.
  • Applicants not having Alabama Train-the-Trainer course will still be considered; however, if hired, will be required to obtain certification upon hire.
  • AnunderstandingofandacommitmenttothephilosophyandmissionoftheAlabamaCommunityCollegeSystem.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and various situations in a professional manner.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

Sick Leave
All regular full-time instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is equivalent to 7 hours per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement. Retirement
The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA. The TRS is a defined benefit plan qualified under Section 401(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. All regular full-time and part-time employees (non-temporary and non- student) who work at least 20 hours per week are required to participate in The Teachers' Retirement System of Alabama.
Tier I - Pays 7.50% monthly. State matches 13.57% (effective 10/01/24)
Tier II – Pays 6.20% monthly. State matches 12.60% (effective 10/01/24)

Health Insurance
PEEHIP, established in 1983, provides health insurance benefits for active and retired education employees and is governed by the PEEHIP Board of Control. The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA.
