Position Summary

The Payroll and Accounts Payable Accountant is responsible for processing College payroll and accounts payable, accounts receivable, and grants accounting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Enter and reconcile payroll data and complete payroll reports, leave forms, and other College financial forms.
  • Encumber purchase orders, verify invoices, and maintain file of closed purchase orders and payment documentation.
  • Oversee tuition refund process and process all federal and state grant and student loan payment information.
  • Create journal entries and verify petty cash receipts.
  • In order to perform these essential functions, the Payroll and Accounts Payable Accountant must be present at work. Therefore, attendance is an essential function.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of an associate's degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of five years' experience with accounting procedures.
  • Payroll experience preferred
  • Must have knowledge and proficiency with generally accepted accounting practices, and sufficient math skills to carry out these procedures.
  • Must have knowledge of applicable state and federal payroll rules and regulations.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Must have skill in the operation of generally used office machines and administrative computing systems, including commonly used programs like Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information.

    Sick Leave

    All regular full-time non-instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is the equivalent of 8 hours of sick leave per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement.     The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control.     This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy. The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education. An application form for the tuition assistance program is available in the Human Resources office and should be completed prior to registration for classes.
