We are looking for a paraprofessional to join our team at Walled Lake Elementary school to assist in an early childhood special education classroom. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing instructional and clerical support to teachers and students, as well as assisting with classroom management, supervision, personal care needs, and safety of preschool-aged students. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children in an educational setting, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently.
Job Requirements and Responsibilities:
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Provide support to teachers in the classroom.
- Assist students with their academic and social needs.
- Maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
- Monitor student behavior and provide appropriate guidance and support, (training provided).
- Assist in the execution of individualized education plans (IEPs), (training provided).
- Provide instruction to students in small groups or one-on-one, (training provided).
- Demonstrate competency in basic academic areas is required.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other staff members to ensure the success of all students.
- Demonstrated initiative with the ability to quickly adapt to new situations as they arise.
- Ability to implement behavior plans and systems and/or medical plans, including recording behavioral data, (training provided).
- Assist students in their educational, personal, health, and behavior needs, including self-care, daily living skills, physical mobility, toileting, etc., (training provided).
- Respect for student confidentiality at all times.
- Successful completion of CPI training and annual certification is preferred. Opportunities to receive this training will be provided by the school district.
- Willingness to contribute as a productive member of the team.
- Demonstrated knowledge in the use of computers and email.
- Additional related training may be required and provided by supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job, including but not limited to: walking, kneeling, sitting on the floor, rising from the floor, bending, and lifting at least 40 pounds.
According to the revised code MCL 380.1230, a criminal history background check will be completed as a condition of employment with Walled Lake Schools.
