What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aquatics Summer Camp Lead position at WALLINGFORD FAMILY YMCA?
GENERAL FUNCTION:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides direct supervision of aquatics camp staff and campers in the aquatic environment at a seasonal day camp. Creates positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with staff. Promotes and supports the potential of all youth in programs through a safe aquatic environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintains a safe pool environment for all campers and staff.
- Organizes camp groups by age and swimming ability.
- Provides and documents swim competency tests.
- Ensures proper and safe ratios of campers to staff. Participates as a lifeguard or swim instructor during camp hours as scheduled by their supervisor or as needed.
- Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures; completes related reports as required.
- Responds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner.
- Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
- Remains calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others.
- Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state health department code.
- Attend & participate in required meetings and training sessions.
- Responsible for keeping all required certifications current. Be able to demonstrate all certification skills at any time.
- Communicate regularly with supervisor regarding incidents, equipment malfunctions, etc.
- Communicates with staff to inform them of scheduling, announcements, etc.
- Additional training must be completed as required by the YMCA, State and/or Federal Government
- All other duties as assigned by YMCA supervisors.
