POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Interacts with new and existing members to help them in achieving their health and fitness goals. This role helps create a welcoming environment for all members. Trains and instructs 1:1 as well as group clients, provides excellent service to members in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Personal Trainer
- Must enjoy working with people to help them achieve their personal goals.
- Strives to achieve monthly personal training sales goals as established Health and Wellness Director.
- Strong background in performing fitness assessments, setting individualized fitness goals, and creating individualized programming accordingly.
- General knowledge of nutrition in relation to exercise.
- Maintains certifications through continuing education courses as well as staying informed on the latest studies and trends in the fitness industry.
- Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members and program participants connect with each other and the YMCA. Stays current and promotes programs, services, and special events at the YMCA.
- Must have the ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
- Attends all department staff meetings.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Fitness Floor Staff
- Maintains cleanliness of equipment fitness center according to the cleaning guidelines (be able to lift 50 lbs).
- Has visibility of members to ensure safety while performing exercises.
- Stays current and promotes programs, services, and special events at the YMCA.
- Performs other duties as assigned (tours of facility and orientation on equipment).
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Required certifications: CPR, AED, First Aid, OSHA and national certification (ACSM, ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM, WITS, ISSA) in personal training or YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise certification.
- At least one year of experience in personal training is preferred.
- Compensation determined based on education and experience.
