Job Description:
As a Veterinary Technician, you will play a vital role in assisting our veterinarians in providing the highest standard of care for our patients. You will work with a team of professionals to provide medical, surgical, and emergency care, as well as offer support to pet owners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist doctors in appointments and emergencies acquiring pertinent medical history, vitals, animal restraint, vaccinations.
- Perform blood collection, IV catheter placement efficiently and sterilely.
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian.
- Knowledge of dosing and administration route protocols and common contraindications.
- Perform laboratory tests, such as blood work and urinalysis.
- Assist veterinarian in all aspects during surgical procedures: premedication, operating or dental room setup, patient induction, preparation and maintenance of general anesthesia, surgical monitoring, surgical assisting, recovery, post op orders, pain management protocols.
- Monitor and care for hospitalized animals, providing routine treatments and observing their condition.
- Take and process radiographs (Xrays).
- Maintain accurate medical records and update patient information.
- Educate pet owners on proper care, nutrition, and medical conditions.
- Clean and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment.
- Ensure a clean and organized clinic environment.
Qualifications:
- Certification in Veterinary Technology from an accredited program is a plus, but not required.
- Previous experience in a veterinary clinic or animal care setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately. Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Proficiency with veterinary software and medical equipment.
