We are looking for an experienced Principal Data Scientist to join our team and help develop a sophisticated inventory placement model. This model plays a vital role in efficiently distributing items across our network of warehouses and stores by considering various inputs such as forecasts, network costs, and structure. About Team:
The Dynamic Inventory Placement team aims to build and deploy a large-scale automated solution for item placement and safety stock calculation across the Walmart network. This team is part of the OneDemand Applied AI Organization, a group of impact-driven researchers dedicated to pursuing scientific and scalability excellence to ensure end-to-end optimality in Walmart's supply chain and store-warehouse network. On the Item and Inventory team, we ensure our customers get their orders when and where they want them, in a frictionless, predictable manner. What's more, we create reusable SaaS products and services that manage our catalog and power end-to-end inventory management, including replenishment, fulfillment, and transportation. With end-to-end inventory management, from replenishment and fulfillment to transportation, we give our drivers and partners the tools they need to get the right items to customers on time and in the right packaging.
What you'll do:
- Model Development: Design, develop, and implement advanced algorithms for dynamic inventory placement.
- Data Analysis: Analyze large datasets to extract actionable insights and refine model inputs, including forecasts and cost structures.
- Optimization and Machine Learning: Employ optimization and machine learning techniques in inventory placement to improve efficiency and reduce costs across the network.
- Collaboration and Stakeholder Management : Work closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, engineers, and supply chain specialists, merchandisers, and product managers to ensure seamless integration and implementation of models.
What you'll bring:
- Educational Background: Master's degree in Data Science, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, or a related fields.
- PhD: Doctorate degree in Data Science, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, or a related fields with 7 years of experience post grad school
- Technical Skills: Outstanding skills in programming in Python, SQL/Spark; statistics, forecasting, data analytics, machine learning, and optimization tools.
