Description

Position Summary

Walsh University and its growing DeVille School of Business invites applications for a visiting assistant professor, non-tenure-track position in the management discipline for the spring semester of 2025. The preferred candidate will ideally hold an earned terminal degree (PhD, DBA) with a specialty in management or a confirmed dissertation date from an accredited institution prior to the intended start-date. Applicants who hold a MBA Degree or Master’s Degree in Management, or similar degree, will also be considered.

Walsh University is a Catholic Institution which offers liberal arts undergraduate, graduate, and adult completion programs and is dedicated to educating its students to become leaders in service to others through a value-based education with an international perspective in the Judeo-Christian tradition.

The management major boasts the most students in the DSoB and has a very strong reputation within the region among businesses, firms, professionals, and other organizations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Reporting directly to the Dean, the successful candidate will play a vital role in the design and instruction of courses in both the undergraduate and MBA programs of the DeVille School of Business at Walsh University. The successful candidate will engage in teaching-related responsibilities and duties which include but are not limited to:

  • Instructing 24 credit hours, 12 credit hours in each of the fall and spring semesters distributed across the undergraduate and MBA programs, along with an appropriate expectation for scholarship (based upon rank)
  • Teaching specialization in any area of the management science field – organizational behavior, strategy, or operations, however, our greatest need is organizational behavior.
  • Teaching, developing, and revising courses and curriculum for graduate and undergraduate programs
  • Participating in assurance of learning
  • Engaging with students inside of and outside of the classroom, mentor students, advise students
  • Attending and actively participating in general activities of the DeVille School of Business
  • Actively engaging in ongoing professional development in the field of instruction
  • The successful candidate will provide an agenda for pursuing scholarly research consistent with Boyers Model, with the University and DeVille School of Business missions, and with specialized accreditation expectations. Ideally, the successful candidate will show evidence of, or demonstrate potential for, published research in professional journals and/or other appropriate scholarly artifacts, including presenting at conferences of professional associations.
  • The successful candidate will engage in service activities which include but are not limited to providing engagement with students and professional assistance to the profession, community, University, and DeVille School of Business in accordance with his/her professional acumen and breadth of experience, and will attend and actively participate in University governance activities.
  • We are also searching for an MBA director.  If our new MBA director is a hired with a management background, then this position will not be filled.  Candidates increase their chances in the search if they apply for both postings.

Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

Must understand and support the Mission, Vision and Code of Ethical Conduct of Walsh University, as a Catholic higher education university as expressed in Ex Corde Ecclesiae, and possess the following:

  • Professional and/or teaching experience in the field of management
  • Ability to teach at all levels of management introductory through advanced at the undergraduate and graduate levels.  Online teaching experience preferred
  • Ability to interact with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of current theory and practice in the field
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a collaborative faculty environment
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in engaging with students
  • The ability to maintain specialized business accreditation requirements.  Publication and/or research in management preferred.

Education:

A Masters degree in management (MSM, MBA, etc.), terminal degree preferred (PhD, DBA, etc.)

Work Experience:

Professional experience in a management role in a corporate, non-profit, or government setting where experiences are aligned with the above teaching responsibilities is preferred

Skills and abilities:

  • Professional demeanor and ability to interact with charity towards students, staff and faculty.  Positive attitude a must.
