Job Description:
The Assistant Deli Manager reports to the Deli Manager and assists the Deli Manager in leading team members to achieve department goals. They assist with department training and ensure the Deli staff understands expectations for the department. This position aids the Department Manager in supervising all Deli and Seafood employees. The Deli Assistant Manager serves as the department leader in the Manager’s absence.
Ability to work weekends and holidays is required. The regular schedule for this position is mostly days (7-3, 8-4, 9-5) with the possibility of closing (1-9) on occasion. Usually will have 1 weekend day off.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
* Provide exceptional customer service in all areas and uphold the same standards for other Deli Department staff
* Work with the Deli Manager in effectively training and educating new Deli employees
* Oversee and aid employees in the preparation and production of cold salads and dips, cooking large quantities of soup, smoking meat, grilling, deep frying, and preparing warm and cold catering orders
* Aid the Deli Manager in maintaining a clean, organized, and well-stocked department
* Ensure proper rotation of all department products
* Check Deli and Seafood product quality to make sure products are in line with WCM's standards
* Work with the Deli Manager in controlling production numbers and costs, including ordering product, tracking shrink, managing inventory, and optimizing products
* Assist Deli Manager with Quarterly Inventory
* Strategically merchandize and track sales to meet customer demand and increase profits
* Assist the Deli Manager in creating schedules for all Deli employees
* Ensure compliance with safety and sanitation standards
* Help clean and maintain Deli and Seafood equipment
* Assist in monitoring staff progress, providing regular feedback
* Additional duties as assigned
Requirements
Skills/Experience:
* Must have a passion for working with and cooking Deli and Seafood items
* Ability to communicate clearly
* Comfortable working with the public and greeting, speaking with, and assisting customers
* Attention to detail, ensuring duties are completed correctly and on time
* Leadership, sales, and merchandising skills
* Department management experience, preferred
Education/Credentials:
* High school diploma/GED
* ServSafe/Food Safety Certification (or willing to obtain one)
Physical Requirements:
* Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time
* Must be able to frequently lift up to 40lbs and occasionally lift up to 80lbs
* Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, twisting, and walking
