Location: Pointe-Claire, QC
Summary:
The Chemical Development Specialist is the company’s main lead into new product development and quality-related issues. Reporting into the Product Manager, this person recommends new formulas, ingredients, packagings, processes, etc. helping the PM to reach targets in terms of product line contribution as a business unit.
Responsabilities:
- Formulation expertise. Developing formulas that will meet and exceed performance and benefits defined in the New Product Development Process.
- Ingredient and raw material sourcing. Obtaining samples, quotes and making recommendations based on performance vs total equivalent cost.
- Working with the Production Team in developing formulas from lab-scale to full production scale.
- Resolving issues with the Production Team.
- Evaluating multiple sourcing alternatives for raw materials in order to eliminate dependency on signle suppliers and leverage cost reductions.
- Manage creation of SDS, product labels, allergen letters, and other chemical related documentation.
- Managing interaction with Health Canada and other regulatory agencies.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Knowledge of Chemistry. Specifically in industrial cleaners, lubricants, penetrants, and surface protectors.
- Ability to examine and analyze product requirements, form new features or functionality, and implement new strategies.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, including experience presenting to large and diverse audiences.
- Excellent negotiation and interpersonal skills, using influence and diplomacy.
- Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with corporate departments, key business partners, and customers.
- Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.
- Computer literate with excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Results oriented and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience & Education
- University degree in Chemical engineering, chemistry or any related field of study.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in chemical development with industrial cleaners, lubricants, penetrants, or surface protectors.
- Experience in Industrial or Metalworking industries is considered an asset.
- Bilingual (English and French).
