MTD is a division of Walter Surface Technologies. Walter provides innovative solutions for the global metal working industry. Our products are sold throughout the United States, Canada, Brazil and Mexico. Walter’s primary investor and shareholder is Onex Corporation.
MTD is pleased to invite applicants for the position of Financial Controller. This team member will be at the heart of the action and will have the opportunity to be involved in and influence many facets of the business and special projects, including the preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports describing the financial situation of the company.
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide general accounting supervision, preparation of entries and reconciliations of balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis.
- Participate in monthly and annual closing activities on a timely basis and in the preparation of monthly financial statements for management.
- Liaise with managers and provide them with all the necessary financial information to help them effectively manage the costs related to their department.
- Receive, record, and authorize requests for disbursements in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Supervise transactions and reconcile GL accounts.
- Responsible of the standard cost accounting for our manufacturing operations.
- Participate in the budget process and forecast updates.
- Participate in the improvement of business processes in terms of efficiency and controls.
- Work in close collaboration with the Walter tax team to provide all the necessary information for the preparation of tax returns.
- Prepare the year-end audit file and participate in all other tax audits.
- Develop and maintain relationships with banking, insurance, and other external providers to facilitate financial activities.

Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting and professional designation (CPA) preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in accounting.
- Good knowledge of US GAAP or IFRS is required.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Experience with ERP (Syspro or other)
Salary : $85,000 - $100,000
