Position Summary
This position serves as the initial point of contact for employees referred to the employee assistance program. Responsible for referring agency employees and family members to appropriate mental health and/or counseling services, and other agency and community resources to effectively meet the presenting need of the employee and/or family members. Responsible for scheduling necessary appointments and maintaining communication with the employee and external referral. This position must have a positive and supportive attitude toward the agency and its overall success. Must have the ability to think globally, solve problems and have good decision-making skills, including critical thinking skills.
Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED equivalent.
- Associate Degree or two years of experience in employee assistance programming, human resources, or peer support.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or four (4) years of experience in employee assistance programming, human resources, or peer support.
Essential Job Functions
- Provides referral to treatment resources for a variety of problems that may be affecting an employee’s mental health and/or job performance.
- Serve as liaison between employee, agency, and external service providers.
- Consults with management and supervisory personnel concerning employee’s seeking/requesting assistance with referrals for mental health, substance abuse and/or counseling services.
- Maintains a comprehensive list of external resources for employees.
- Provides a framework to assist and encourage employees to maintain their health and wellbeing.
- Maintains on-going contact list for follow up on employees, treatment providers, and treatment results.
- Responds to inquiries concerning employment assistance programs, stress effects concerning first responder activities, and related issues; schedules appointments as necessary.
- Maintains files, records, and case documentation in compliance with established regulatory standards, Florida State Statutes, State Administrative Code, and the Walton County Sheriff’s Office policies, regulations, and guidelines, i.e. HIPAA.
- Adheres to agency policies and procedures; maintains client confidentiality as expected by ethical standards.
- Attend training as requested to provide education on the offerings of the Employee Assistance Program.
- Work in conjunction with all divisions to develop relationships with employees.
- Perform all essential job functions of Peer Wellness Specialist on an as needed basis.
- Maintain a working relationship with outside agencies.

- Must be able to perform in a team environment.
- Understand organizational culture, clinical and interpersonal issues that customers/clients may have and provide recommendations and professional feedback to identify solutions within their environment.
- Strong computer skills, writing and interpersonal communication skills are required.
- Ability to drive and access to a safe and reliable vehicle to attend customer appointments is necessary.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse community.
