Art and Wellness Enterprises (AWE) is seeking an experienced, qualified and accountable individual to join the team as a Financial Controller with a mindset determined to modernize, innovate and simplify financial processes. The successful candidate will be responsible for the internal Financial Control environment in AWE and the related nonprofit entities including Crystal Bridges, Art Bridges, Whole Health Institute and Whole Health School of Medicine.
About the Position:
The Financial Controller will report to the CFO and be primarily responsible for month end close processes along with all sub-ledger processes (including accounts payable and receivable) that form part of it. Additional duties will include liaison with tax professionals; insurance renewals and management; external audit management; oversight of all reconciliations and other routine financial controls and processes.
The Financial Controller may also be asked to lead financial statement preparation and to assist in the development and maintenance of budgets. As a key member of a small Finance Leadership Team of four, flexibility and a team player attitude will be essential.
What you will do:
Key Roles & Responsibilities
- Lead most of the accounting team, ensuring roles and responsibilities are clear and segregation of duties is in place.
- Provide leadership and supervision to the personnel on your team including hiring, training, monitoring performance, professional development, and evaluation
- Participate in mentoring, training, recruiting, retention and team-building activities
- Ensure accuracy and accountability for all transactions, financials, filings, and reporting
- Bring an understanding of US GAAP and financial statement reporting best practices to the ecosystem
- Analyze and prepare complex financial statements and related schedules
- Recognize complex technical issues, reach appropriate conclusions, and apply authority to support conclusions
- Lead the creation of financial and other policies for adoption across the ecosystem and help to design measures to ensure compliance with them.
- Manage the external audit process efficiently and effectively
- Manage insurance arrangements
- Liaise with the outsourced tax function, ensure that the right information is provided timely, review and understand tax filings
- Perform other duties as required and necessary to accomplish goals and objectives
Qualifications required for your success:
The individual will have energy, intellectual capacity, strategic business acumen and professional integrity. The ideal background will include:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- 5-10 years’ work experience in an accounting role within a professional setting,
- CPA certification is required.
- Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
- Advanced understanding of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
- Superb professionalism and diplomacy; ability to interact with high-level individuals internally and externally
