After field training, deputies with the Walworth County Sheriff's Office are assigned to one of three 8.25 hour shifts within the Patrol Division on a rotating schedule, working 5 days on/2 days off, 5 days on/3 days off to provide 24-hour per day, 7-day per week service. The Sheriff's Office offers a robust training program with lots of opportunities for collateral duties such as substation assignment with deputy assigned take home squads, SWAT, Dive Team, Crowd Control, Honor Guard, FTO, Mobile Field Force, etc.
Lateral Transfer Benefits for Experienced Officers
- Candidates with prior law enforcement experience are eligible to be placed at an hourly rate equal to or higher than that paid by their previous employer.
- With 5 or more years of prior law enforcement experience, a candidate is eligible to receive 40 hours of vacation upon hire, with higher annual rates based on their prior years of service.

- Investigate crimes and civil complaints.
- Investigate vehicular accidents.
- Enforce traffic laws, state statutes, and county ordinances.
- Conduct business and residence checks during routine patrol.
- Write and compile reports.
- Testify in court as needed.
- Transport prisoners to and from holding facilities, court, and other institutions.
- Take into custody and provide services to mentally impaired and/or intoxicated individuals.
- Restrain aggressive persons and apply handcuffs and other restraints without assistance from others.
- Engage in physical altercations with or without equipment or weapons and have sufficient skills and training to overcome suspects and subdue them.
- Walk and run distances under varying conditions, under normal and emergency response.
- Operate a squad car in varying conditions, under normal and emergency response.
- Demonstrate a commitment to county safety and risk management efforts.
High school diploma or equivalent supplemented by 60 college-level credits, an associate's degree, or two years of full-time law enforcement experience with current LESB certification. Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license. Must be at least twenty-one (21) years old by the first day of employment - no age restriction applied for applicants who qualify for veteran's preference. Felony convictions in any jurisdiction are disqualifying per LESB unless the judgment or conviction has been reversed or completely pardoned. Applicants must be able to serve as a credible witness in a court of law. Any applicant who receives a Brady letter, a Giglio letter, or who is on the Wisconsin Department of Justice "Brady List" will be disqualified. Sworn Walworth County law enforcement employees must reside within the State of Wisconsin and within Walworth County, or the contiguous counties of Rock, Jefferson, Waukesha, Racine, or Kenosha upon completion of their probationary period and must continue to maintain residence therein so long as employed.
