Job Title: High Incidence/Interrelated Special Education Teacher
Description:
We are seeking a highly qualified and dedicated teacher to fill the position of High Incidence/Interrelated Special Education Teacher at Wamego Middle School. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing special education services to students in grades 6-8, including developing individualized education plans (IEPs), facilitating IEP team meetings, and communicating with parents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fulfill the role of case manager for special education students with academic and behavioral disabilities.
- Oversee the development of compliant IEPs and facilitate IEP team meetings.
- Communicate frequently and effectively with parents, general education teachers, and other service providers.
- Prepare lesson plans and provide direct special education services to students.
- Create a classroom environment that is positive and conducive to learning.
- Develop and implement behavior intervention plans that include positive behavior supports.
- Work collaboratively with general education teachers to meet the needs of special education students.
- Assist general education teachers with curriculum modifications necessary to enable students to participate and make progress in the general education curriculum.
- Ensure the implementation of the IEP as written.
- Assist with evaluations of students in determining eligibility and need for special education services.
- Assess students' progress on a regular basis and report this progress as required.
- Supervise para-educators and communicate as necessary with building and district administration.
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Attend all required staff meetings and professional development activities.
Requirements:
- Candidates must hold or be eligible for a valid Kansas teaching license with a High Incidence and/or Interrelated Special Education endorsement to include grades 6-8.
- Certified teachers interested in pursuing an endorsement to teach special education through a waiver process are also encouraged to apply.
