About Gateway and WANRack:
St. Louis-based Gateway Fiber and Kansas City-based WANRack have merged to create a national fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) platform serving residents, businesses, and schools across 25 U.S. states. Gateway Fiber, founded in 2019, provides high-speed internet to residential and commercial customers across Missouri, Massachusetts, and Minnesota. WANRack, launched in 2013, is a broadband provider that serves school districts and libraries through its E-Rate program, as well as residential and commercial customers in eastern Kansas via its KWIKOM subsidiary.
The merger combines the resources of both companies, resulting in greater scale, improved operations, and enhanced growth opportunities for employees and the organization. The combined company is expanding its product offerings for small and medium-sized businesses while addressing increasing commercial and wholesale internet needs.
Job Summary:
Gateway Fiber is seeking a GIS Administrator to manage and optimize our Geographic Information System (GIS) environment. This role is crucial in supporting fiber network planning, deployment, and asset management by maintaining GIS databases, web mapping applications, virtual machines, and CrescentLink. The ideal candidate will work closely with multiple departments, including engineering, network operations, and IT teams to ensure accurate and efficient geospatial data management, supporting the company’s fiber expansion efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
GIS & Database Administration:
- Administer both ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise multi-server solution and AGOL
- Maintain and optimize GIS databases using MS SQL Server for fiber network planning and asset management.
- Develop and execute SQL queries, scripts, and automation for GIS data processing and reporting.
- Ensure data accessibility, integrity, and security within the GIS and SQL environments.
Web Mapping & GIS Tools:
- Manage and enhance web-based GIS mapping applications.
- Utilize CrescentLink to support fiber optic network mapping, splicing diagrams, and infrastructure tracking.
- Provide GIS analysis and spatial data visualization to assist network expansion and maintenance decisions.
Virtual Machines & System Management:
- Deploy and maintain GIS applications on virtual machines (VMs) in a cloud or on-premise environment.
- Ensure performance optimization, system updates, and security compliance for GIS infrastructure.
Telecom Network GIS Support:
- Integrate GIS with fiber network planning, OSP (Outside Plant) design, and asset management tools.
- Develop workflows to streamline fiber deployment, permitting, and operational tracking.
- Work with engineering and IT teams to troubleshoot GIS-related issues and implement solutions.
User Support & Training:
- Provide training and support to internal teams on GIS tools, CrescentLink, and web mapping applications.
- Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs), best practices, and documentation for GIS data management.
Qualifications
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Science, IT, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in GIS Enterprise administration, preferably in fiber optic, telecommunications, or utilities.
- Strong expertise in SQL database management (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or similar).
- Experience with GIS software, including ArcGIS and CrescentLink.
- Knowledge of web mapping technologies (ArcGIS Online, Mapbox, Leaflet, OpenLayers, or similar).
- Familiarity with virtual machines (VMs) and cloud-based GIS deployment.
- Experience with fiber network mapping, splicing, and OSP infrastructure is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
Preferred Certifications:
- GIS Certification (From an accredited institution)
- Cloud Certification (Azure/AWS/Google)
- ESRI Enterprise Admin Professional Certification
