Job Title: Field Technician

Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Field Technician to join our team. The Field Technician is responsible for assisting the construction crew and service technicians with essential tasks in order to complete the current job assigned. When assisting the construction crew, duties include unloading and loading equipment, digging holes and locating existing utilities, repairing water main, installing new services, securing the job site, placing signs where directed, and completing various other tasks as assigned by the Field Supervisor. The Field Technician will undergo on the job training to learn how to properly operate equipment, read maps, and to understand all phases of construction while performing manual labor on the job site. Preference will be given to applicants that already have their Water Distribution Licensing, Class A CDL, and experience operating heavy machinery. When assisting with service, the Field Technician will be resolving any customer concerns, locating and providing maintenance to water pipe and equipment within all WRWA service areas, interpreting maps, acquiring GPS points, providing customer service to subcontractors, inspectors, outside agencies, and others. The Field Technician will serve on-call on a rotational basis for response to customer calls and assist construction crew on emergency repair work as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

· Work around located utilities.

· Expose existing utilities by hand-digging.

· Repair/install water main.

· Train on equipment operation.

· Reports to the CEO with primary direction given by the Field Supervisor, and secondary direction by Construction Operators.

· Load and unload materials and equipment.

· Place signs, cones, and barricades when necessary.

· Secure job site and equipment at the end of the day.

· Perform daily equipment maintenance (greasing equipment, checking oil, hydraulic fluid,
and fueling).

· Transport heavy equipment (if employee holds a valid Class A CDL).

· Complete job site restoration.

· Assists construction crew to repair broken mains and service connections under routine or emergency conditions and restore area by using various tools and equipment.

· Performs valve and pipe maintenance and inspection, operating valves using proper procedures, cleans and repairs valve boxes, and determines source of malfunction or leaks.

· Ensures protection of public health and the water supply by staying abreast of current safety procedures and utilizing proper sanitation techniques when building and repairing water infrastructure.

· Installs, removes, maintains, replaces, repairs, and field tests water meters and meter reading systems.

· Reads and interprets maps and diagrams to successfully locate underground water and wastewater pipes for homeowners, plumbers, utilities, and contractors.

· Inspects facilities and advises WRWA customers of requirements to initiate and/or maintain water service.

· Collection of water quality samples.

· Checks for water service and water main leaks, and reports findings for action.

· Maintains records, logs activities, and prepares reports as required.

· Required to be on rotating on call and respond to all weekend and after-hours duties.

· Operates company vehicles and other work equipment in a safe manner.

· Acquire GPS locations to be implemented into a GIS System.

· Performs wastewater maintenance.

· Excel both in teams and when working independently with minimal supervision.

· Maintains a safe, clean, and orderly work area.

· Performs other duties of a similar nature.

· Must obtain Water Distribution Grade I license within one year of employment.

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

· Clean vehicles and equipment.

· Mowing/shoveling snow.

· Other duties as assigned by field supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

· Must provide proof of an insurance-acceptable driver’s license. (Class A CDL preferred)

· Must be able to successfully pass pre-employment drug test.

· Must have solid work references.

· Must have the ability to perform difficult physical labor.

· Must be able to obtain a Class A CDL within one year of employment.

· Must be at least 21 years of age.

· Build strong relationships with customers and demonstrate a high degree of trustworthiness and integrity. Ability to critically assess situations, solve problems, work effectively under stress and within deadlines.

· Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills when working with the public and others.

· Basic skills in reading and interpreting maps, charts, GIS data, and other documentation.

· Quickly learn and adapt to meet the challenges of varied assignments.

· Must be able to obtain Grade 1 Water Distribution License within one year of employment.

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS

The Field Technician position requires various aspects of physical labor. The field technician may be required to prepare sites by cleaning them, loading or unloading materials and equipment, removing hazards, or manually digging. The field technician may also run some types of equipment, or put together structures that are used to complete jobs. The physical parameters listed below are the core requirements to be able to successfully fulfill the job duties.

· Use one or two hands to grasp, move, or assemble objects.

· Use muscles to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects (up to 80 lbs.)

· Hold the arm and hand in one position or hold the hand steady while moving the arm.

· Use stomach and lower back muscles to support the body for long periods without getting tired.

· Use muscles for extended periods without getting tired.

· Be physically active for long periods without getting tired or out of breath.

· Bend, stretch, twist, or reach out.

· Squat and return to standing position repetitively.

· Adjust body movements or equipment controls to keep pace with speed changes of moving objects.

· Ability to maintain stability in all weather conditions.

Job Type: Full-time

Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
