ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
The work involves the performance of standardized clerical tasks, including keyboarding and computer use. Although detailed instructions are given for new assignments, and practices are usually definitely fixed, employees must be able to exercise independent judgment in applying them to specific cases. The work is reviewed by immediate observation, by checking completed work, and by periodic or spot checks. Direction may be given by the Library Media Specialist.
- Types purchase orders for library books and materials and keeps transaction records; reconciles records of purchase orders with monthly Status of Funds sheets.
- Types bibliographies and other items as needed.
- Checks in new materials as received, files invoices and other acquisition records; processes new materials to prepare for circulation; prepares bibliographies of new materials and maintains inventory records; returns materials to publishers when necessary.
- Processes library materials (stamping with property stamp and/or special funding marking (NYS AID Materials), covering books, adding records to shelf-list, filing cards in catalog or adding records to automated library systems, checking in and filing magazines and microfiche).
- Prepares and distributes overdue notices and bills for lost materials to students; schedules VCR and TV as requested; correlates sound system usage with Central Media.
- Keeps records of circulation and attendance statistics.
- Inventories collection and adjusts library records.
- Repairs damaged books.
- Assists students in locating library materials, checking books and other materials in and out, using electronic reference tools such CD-ROM encyclopedias, magazine indices, atlases and other specialized sources. Provides supervision and assistance to students during open library when librarian is conducting class or story hour; assists teachers with equipment such as laminator, slide projector, camcorder, etc..
