What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Attorney position at Ware | Immigration?
The Associate Attorney must be capable of handling a sizable and diverse client caseload. The Associate will be responsible for representing clients in immigration proceedings, preparing legal documents, and providing legal advice. This role requires dedication to client communication by providing case updates and strategies to clients ensuring they are well-informed and supported throughout the process. Excellent writing, time management and organizational skills are a must.
MINUMUM EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
JD degree from an accredited law school.
Active and in good standing State Bar license from any U.S. state (Louisiana Bar preferred).
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Foreign language proficiency (Spanish) highly preferred.
Able to perform manual and electronic searches using external systems.
Able to work well independently, as well as effectively within a team.
Able to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality.
Ability to work independently, under pressure, and meet deadlines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serves as a trusted member of the Firm reporting to the Sr. Attorney(s) / managing partners.
Requires some supervision but is adept at interpreting laws, rulings, agency guidance and regulations to determine strategy for each case matter within their portfolio.
Conduct thorough consultations with clients and make appropriate recommendations and / or referrals to outside agencies.
Ensure each new case matter is properly opened in billing management software including setting legal and filing fees and detailed opening memos.
Enter all billable, non-billable and admin time in a timely manner.
Keep track of all deadlines and ensure that all case reminders, deadlines, and filings are promptly completed.
Oversee timely preparation and filings of assigned cases and clients.
Review and finalize packets and legal filings to submit to government agencies.
Prepare clients for USCIS interviews and any other court appearances.
Keep clients informed of case progress through telephonic, electronic and written communication.
Work closely with Managing Paralegals in mentoring and monitoring other paralegals.
Mentor, supervise and conduct regular case review with paralegals on assigned cases including monitoring case progress, monitoring communications with clients, and setting case strategies.
Provide feedback for paralegal performance reviews.
Attend, propose and present on immigration issues at local, state, regional and national conferences on behalf of Ware Immigration.
Attend bi-weekly attorneys’ meetings.
Complete required CLE courses and timely report CLE attendance to relevant bar associations.
