The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, licensing, project specialty/complexity and work location. At Ware Malcomb certain roles are bonus eligible.
Responsibilities:
- Conceptual estimating experience (must have conceptual ability to work with minimum information).
- Analyze cost data, unit prices, general conditions and general requirements costs, and information that can be developed and used as a “rule of thumb” for all building systems estimated costs.
- Preparing, verifying, organizing, and coordinating Request for Quote documents and schedules, utilizing schedule information to estimate General Contractor's and other items where schedule is important.
- Data input into estimating software program (RS Means).
- Quantity surveying, bid tabulation, and bid leveling.
- Perform archive filing and historical cost data gathering.
- Provide direction and training to new Estimators as they join the team.
- Responsible to evaluate GC estimates and proposals are complete, accurate, and well supported by recent pricing data.
- Utilize Building Information Models (BIM) for quantity take-off and visualization where possible to support verification of a complete estimate.
- Evaluate subcontractor input for scope/cost inclusion. Identify scope gaps and overlaps and coordinate with other staff managing trades.
- Verify pricing within the estimate or proposal is complete and accurate, reflecting recent pricing data, subcontractor bids or budgets.
- Develop, lead or support the assembly or verification of all estimates, bid documents required by and submitted to the Owner.
- Actively participate in estimate and proposal review meetings with architects, engineers, contractors, and owners and incorporate comments, feedback, and input into revised estimates or proposals.
- Prepare comparison analysis to previous estimates or previous projects and develop a clear and concise message to explain the variances for each of the project stakeholders.
- Provide variance reports for each milestone estimate to communicate scope development.
- Qualifications associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, Building Construction or similar, plus five or more years as an Estimator for commercial construction projects.
- Experience with full project scoping, estimating, and bidding – civil, structural/envelope, finishes, MEP/FP, building equipment and specialties.
- Must have experience in large commercial/industrial projects.
- Knowledge of building/general construction/civil construction practices, means and methods, materials, systems, market conditions, and standard industry practices.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction documents.
- Ability to collaborate, communicate efficiently, and function well within a team-oriented environment – including internal staff, consultant teams, client representatives, contractors, and jurisdictional representatives.
- Strong computer skills and a familiarity with Bluebeam, Microsoft Office Suite, and RS Means estimating software. Experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud, Procore, or other estimating programs is a plus.
- Must be able to work concurrently on different projects in varying phases of development and meet established deadlines.
- Construction Project Management experience, office or field.
- Experience with both bid projects and private developer driven projects.
- Experience with on-screen/3D take-off/BIM.
- Productive relationships with construction industry partners and contracting community or ability to develop and/or expand relationships in local and national markets.
