We are hiring for a motivated and experienced Director of Transportation to build our brokerage division. This position will be responsible for structuring, building, and managing both sales and operations for our transportation brokerage business. This includes delivering revenue through selling, as well as building and developing a team, and establishing a strong carrier network. This salaried position will report to the VP of Fulfillment & Chemical Logistics.
DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Train and lead a team of brokers, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and high performance.
- Build and nurture relationships with a network of reliable carriers, ensuring capacity, and competitive rates.
- Drive revenue growth by finding new shippers and expanding with current customers that fit the strategy.
- Oversee the shipment lifecycle of sourcing and securing loads to dispatching, tracking, and on-time delivery.
- Set up clear roles and responsibilities across the order life cycle and manage the team to deliver on metrics.
- Leverage technology, with process execution, to automate processes, optimize efficiency and data visibility.
- Monitor and drive accountability for key performance indicators, budget, and profitability for brokerage.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Expertise in the brokerage operating model of rate negotiation, carrier sourcing, and risk management.
- Collaborate with carriers to deliver solutions to shippers through balancing cost and value.
- Analytical skills to assess market trends, evaluate carrier performance, and make data-driven decisions.
- Knowledge of industry regulations, logistics operations, and market dynamics within the buy/sell model.
- An understanding of pricing and related drivers to win business while maintaining budget and service levels.
- Ability to source high quality capacity patterns, and scale brokerage business.
- Triage needs to deploy resources effectively, fill gaps when needed, and effectively delegate.
- Be an advocate and subject matter expert to represent brokerage capabilities and value propositions.
- Solution-oriented, uses technology and data to identify problems, to enable good business process.
- Strong communication and change management capabilities to drive adoption.
- Identify opportunities to cross-sell to existing clients and elicit support from shared services.
- Self-motivated leader with a strong work ethic, entrepreneurial spirit, and relentless drive to exceed goals.
PREFERED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree.
- 8 years of experience in transportation brokerage.
- Experience selling both spot and contract opportunities to mid-market and enterprise shippers.

PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Work out of Dallas, TX or Chicago, IL area locations.
- Travel up to 10% of the time; estimates may vary based on home location.
