General Description and Scope:
The Security Associate is responsible for helping to ensure the safety of residents, staff, visitors and property throughout Warm Beach Senior Community (WBSC). This includes establishing a professional uniformed presence at entry points and checking in visitors appropriately according to procedures. The Security Associate performs security rounds on the interior and exterior portions of the campus on foot and using a vehicle observing and reporting unusual or suspicious behavior appropriately. The Security position is responsible for monitoring video surveillance, performing preventative tasks and is a responder in the event of emergencies. The Security Associate is also responsible for some custodial duties during their shift including cleaning, mopping, and vacuuming and garbage disposal. The Security Associate is physically prepared to move equipment and lift as necessary and be on their feet throughout their shift.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Welcomes visitors, residents, staff and family members entering the main lobby of the facility in a courteous, polite manner using tact and good judgment. Maintains a professional, well-groomed appearance at all times.
- Quickly becomes a knowledge expert on WBSC emergency response and disaster response procedures.
- Checks visitors in registering them and issuing them guest badges according to current procedures. Answers questions and directs them as needed.
- Communicates with the nurses’ station at the start of shift and during shift establishing communication on visitor patterns and any pertinent issues.
- Has knowledge of and keeps current on all activities, programs and events scheduled throughout the campus.
- Follows assigned schedule to lock and unlock doors and close windows throughout the campus. Follows assigned schedule to lock and unlock security gates throughout the campus.
- Calls 911 if he or she suspects or actually knows of a security problem “in progress”. Notifies supervisor of 911 calls immediately.
- Has thorough knowledge of radio, cell phone, pager and other communication equipment. Performs operational check and routine maintenance in accordance with procedures and warranties.
- Performs security report, including listening to security voice mail at beginning of shift, and logs information accurately. Completes security check-off lists, logs, incident reports and write-ups, as procedures require. Communicates efficiently and effectively with on-coming shifts debriefing them so a seamless transition of shifts occurs.
- Responds to Emergency Response System calls in person or by intercom until call is resolved to resident satisfaction according to procedure. Calls may occur throughout the campus received by phone, pager or Nextel phone. Contacts resident and appropriate staff, assesses situation, responds according to procedure, making appropriate emergency contacts if necessary and resetting system as required.
- Is at employee entrance door during shift changes
- Watches for maintenance problems and performs minor maintenance such as replacing light bulbs and unplugging toilets. Reports problems to maintenance request line. Contacts the “on call” maintenance person if excessive time will be required to perform maintenance.
- Performs audit of facility vehicles to insure keys have been removed and vehicles are locked. Records exceptions.
- Performs preventive maintenance and routine maintenance rounds per assigned schedule.
- Performs miscellaneous tasks as assigned including transport deliveries to appropriate locations, feeding the fish on Tuesday and Friday each week, assisting with cleanup and setup Beachwood lounge per scheduled requests, cleaning and preparing The Cottage for occupancy in emergency situations, opening and closing swimming pool cover and performing pool inspections per schedule, vacuuming facility hallways per schedule, sweeping and mopping floors in the Health Care Center dining room and activities per schedule, using “spot” carpet extractor on carpet spills, power washing wheel chairs in the Health Care Center per schedule, emptying garbage containers into compactor daily, and opening washing machine doors per schedule.
- Follows infection control procedures and follows universal precautions including proper hand washing and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment. Insures that infectious waste containers are properly bagged and sealed.
- Performs other custodial duties as assigned.
- Participates in the facility Disaster Preparedness Team training and is thoroughly familiar with the fire alarm and fire sprinkler systems.
- Attends required WBSC training and in-service programs.

- Promotes WBSC by maintaining a neat, clean professional appearance as defined in the WBSC employees’ handbook and appropriate to working with older adults.
- Uses tools and operates equipment in a safe manner considering persons, buildings or other equipment that might be endangered or damaged because of negligence.
- Performs duties in a safe manner and follows safety rules including reporting any work related injury at the time of injury to the supervisor.
- Performs other duties as requested.
Physical Demands
- Speech, sight and hearing to effectively communicate, read and fill out reports.
- Speech, sight and hearing to communicate effectively by varied means including but not limited to telephone, in person, or writing and while meeting or greeting clients and conversing with residents or speaking publicly.
- Mobility is necessary to sit, stand, walk and tour the community by foot and by car.
- Mobility is necessary to assist disabled or frail individuals by pushing wheelchairs or handling walkers in and out of automobiles or holding doors for people.
- Ability to climb and descend stairs.
- Ability to lift or move 50 pounds on a frequent basis. Ability to reach above head and below waist, push and pull on a repetitive basis using proper body mechanics.
Working Conditions
- Work environment is a senior community campus consisting of large buildings, small buildings, health care facilities, common areas, residential apartments, congregate apartments, construction areas, maintenance facilities, garages, dining area, parking lots, closets, storage areas, store fronts and varied vehicles.
- Work is indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions on various surfaces, many of which are uneven.
- Exposed to all weather conditions and temperature swings
- Will be walking around inside buildings and around the facility grounds. Walking or standing for long periods of time.
- Will periodically be inside resident apartments.
- Subject to frequent interruptions.
- Must deal with residents, families and visitors on a professional basis.
- May be exposed to communicable diseases.
- Must be able to work nights and weekends
Personal Specifications:
- Must be 18 years or older, a high school graduate or equivalent, and pass a background check.

- Self-motivated, self-directed, self-disciplined, honest and reliable with demonstrated ability to carry out responsibilities with minimal supervision and direction including regular, predictable, and dependable attendance.
- Wear uniform provided by WBSC. Wear appropriate sturdy work style boots/shoes in good repair. Wear clean, unfaded black jeans or Docker-style slacks which are not provided by WBSC.
- Must have and maintain a valid Washington State Drivers License and inform your immediate supervisor and Human Resources (HR) of any convictions that occur after receipt of this job description.
