POSITION SUMMARY
Under general supervision, the Special Education Teacher serves as a specialist to support students who are eligible for special education services. The Special Education Teacher works in a program designed to provide a less restrictive alternative to the segregated special classroom, and supports an appropriate educational program for mild to moderately handicapped students who require special services in order to access and benefit from general education instruction. The Special Education Teacher provides students with direct instruction in the areas of social skills, daily living, emotional regulation and behavioral supports as well as remedial instruction in academic subjects, and cognitive processing.
In addition to these specific individualized programs, the Special Education Teacher may assist general education classroom teachers through co-teaching, team teaching and with selection of appropriate curricula and the development of behavior management programs. Students eligible for Special Education Services receive the majority of their educational instruction within the general education curriculum and setting.
The Special Education Teacher will follow the regulations associated with IDEA, FAPE, and procedural safeguards and IEP development and implementation. The Special Education Teacher works under the supervision of the principal and administrator in charge of Student Services.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE (Minimum Qualifications)
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Valid TSPC with proper endorsements or ability to obtain prior to position start date.
- Have standards of moral character as required of all Oregon licensed educators (OAR 584-005-0005).
- Special Education Experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Masters Degree.
- 3 years of experience as a Special Education Teacher in an Educational Resource Center.
- Bilingual Spanish
COMPENSATION
- Salary: $49,146-$96,390 (2025/26 SY TBD)
- SPED Stipend: up to $10,000

- JCSD 509-J pays the employee's share (6%) of the Public Employees Retirement System Contribution
