Primary Function
The job of the Controller was established for the purpose of planning, organizing, and coordinating with District accounting, payroll and bookkeeping personnel; establishing payroll and accounting processes and procedures; conducting periodic accounting analysis and reporting; preparing financial information and coordinating the annual audit. The omission of specific statement of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.

Education and / or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in job related area.
- 5 years of accounting required
- Minimum of 3 years of educational supervisory experience
- Certified Public Accountant or master’s degree preferred
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Monitors and projects cash flow for the purpose of developing efficiencies in cash flow and to facilitate borrowing.Assists with budget projections for the purpose of providing required guidance and support.Communicates with team members in the areas of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll for the purpose of understanding and accounting for transactions impacting the general ledger.Directs and evaluates accounts receivable position and assists with training and development of school bookkeepers.Assists other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.Directs and monitors federal and state grant accounting for the purpose of ensuring the preparation of financial reports provided to the state of Michigan, county and / or federal government grant requirements and support cash management of the District.Manages, evaluates and revises accounting activities, system and program for the purpose of meeting School Board objectives, and local, state and federal regulations ( AS400).Performs analysis of all trial balance accounts in funds and reconciles on a monthly basis for the purpose of ensuring accurate accounting and month-end reporting.Performs complex accounting work according to generally accepted accounting standards, established procedures, departmental guidelines, and regulatory requirements applicable to the work for the purpose of compliance requirements and potential implications in District operations.Prepares various financial reports ( Medicaid, center programming, FID) for the purpose of compliance with state, federal and / or county requirements.Makes arrangements for and coordinates annual audit engagement; ensures the preparation of working papers required by external auditors for the purpose of ensuring compliance with state, federal and / or country regulations.Reviews and approves monthly cash receipts, bank reconciliations and journal entries for the purpose of communicating information, gaining feedback and ensuring adherence to established internal controls.Supervises and assures compliance with Michigan 1022 Accounting Manual for the purpose of keeping the District in compliance with state Accounting procedures.Assists with troubleshooting the daily operations of the finance department ( payroll, accounts payable, purchasing, finance and fiscal services) for the purpose of achieving objectives within the District Budget.Application Procedure
