Environmental Public Health Specialist (EPHS) Associate
(Restaurant/Food Establishment/Lodging Inspector)
Position Description:
Part-time Position- 2 ½ days per week (some flexibility on days of the week) some mandatory partial Saturdays during special events, etc. Will work under the direction of full-time EPHS staff and Health Department Administrator. Pay range $17-$19 per hour.
Position Specific Duties:
- Inspect food service establishments, food distribution facilities, temporary food concessions, mobile units and pushcarts, etc. to determine compliance with food laws and regulations
- Inspect lodging facilities for safety and sanitation requirements under state regulations
- Investigates complaints involving possible environmental health ordinance violations, prepares reports and makes recommendations for corrective measures and follow-up investigations
- Maintains accurate, organized work records, documents and files
- Maintains strict confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations
- Other duties as assigned
Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to the agency’s mission. Ability to work with diverse individuals and groups on complex issues. Excellent communication skills. Function effectively and independently in assigned areas of responsibility. Interpret and apply the Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services Environmental Health Operational Guidelines (EHOG) manual.
Proficient in use of Microsoft Office, with emphasis on Word and Excel. Must be able to attend job-related events, meetings and trainings. All employees of the agency are considered first responders and may be asked to assist in emergency or disaster response operations.
Typical work hours will fall between Monday-Friday (working weekends and evenings as needed for special events in the community), will be both indoors and outdoors for inspections, ability to lift or move up to 50 lbs., ability to climb steps, kneel, reach up, etc. during inspection duties.
- Extensive experience in the food service industry at a managerial level and some college or post education semester hours in biology, chemistry, sanitary science or closely related area. High School diploma or GED required.
- Excellent communication and computer skills are required
- A current driver’s license and auto insurance are required
- Must complete the Food Safety Manager Course within required timeframe
- A minimum of 15 hours of continuing education annually is required upon hire
