Valid state nursing license
Minimum of 5 years nursing experience
REPORTS TO
Director of Health Services
JOB GOALS
To assist the Director of Health Services in providing the fullest possible educational opportunity for each district student by minimizing absence due to illness and creating a climate of health and well-being in district schools.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assists the Director of Health Services, school health committee, and administrators in developing school health program.
- Participates in work of health curriculum committee.
- Conducts school programs of immunization, physical examinations, and comprehensive health screenings as directed by the Director of Health Services.
- Observe students on a regular basis to detect health needs.
- Instruct teachers on screening students for health defects.
- Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students.
- Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on student health matters, as directed by the Director of Health Services.
- Visits student homes when necessary.
- Assumes authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered an injury or emergency illness.
- Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures.
- Makes recommendations to the Director of Health Services on health needs of individual students.
- Implements Board policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.
- Participates in in-service training programs.
- Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools.
- Teaches classes to meet state curriculum guidelines/requirements.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physical demands are those activities required of a work in a job. This job may require lifting of objects that exceed 40 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighting up to 20 pounds. Other physical demands that may be required are:

Ten month year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
