What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant State's Attorney position at Warren County State's Attorney's Office?
Mandatory Qualifications:
- Currently licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois*
- In good standing
- Familiarity with Windows based computer systems
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word
*Those with a valid Supreme Court Rule 711 License may be eligible for hire upon different terms.
Experience:
Criminal law experience desired, but not required. However, the selected candidate must be capable of keeping an accelerated learning pace.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Meet necessary licensure, training, and CLE requirements (necessary expenses reimbursed)
- Prosecuting or otherwise handling county ordinance violations, traffic offenses, misdemeanors, juvenile cases, truancy matters, extradition, and civil commitment matters
- Represent the State in all trial court proceedings including traffic court, detention hearings arraignments, preliminary hearings, extraditions, pretrial conferences, and trials
- Prepare search warrants and obtaining arrest warrants as directed
- Review and proof written materials as directed by the State’s Attorney
- Provide daily briefings to the State’s Attorney
- Punctual and regular attendance at the office
- Limited travel (mileage reimbursed)
- Occasional on-call duties
- ‘As assigned’ tasks for which the State’s Attorney’s Office is responsible

Work Environment:
Almost exclusively at the Warren County Courthouse in Monmouth, IL. From time to time, the Assistant State’s Attorney may be expected to travel to the courthouse, adjacent county courthouses or (adjacent) jail outside office hours, the Monmouth Police Department, the Galesburg Child Advocacy Center, or for CLE programs/symposia
Office hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. From time to time, the Assistant State’s Attorney should expect to be on call and to work after hours.
Salary:
Depending on experience and present skill set between $60,000 and $80,000 annually
