COUNTY OF WARREN
NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK : FLSA Status : Non-Exempt
Designing, installing, and maintaining digital communication networks within the County of Warren and all County subdivisions and departments. Duties include establishing wireless networks, developing digital communication networks, and improving cyber-security; does related work as required.

- Establishing and maintaining IT and digital communication infrastructure, including wireless or LAN networks
- Provide project management for various IT projects, deploying and instructing IT staff in what needs to be done to ensure completion on-time and on / under budget
- Establishing and maintaining digital communication software, including email, user logins and passwords; this includes setting up new employees with company email accounts and providing them with access to the network, as well as troubleshooting for existing employees.
- Training new staff to operate within the company's IT systems and ensuring that new staff are aware of company communication policies
- Making sure that the networks are protected from malware and viruses, identifying areas that might be under threat and areas where security can be improved, keeping up to date on ever-changing cyber-threats
- Installing and maintaining firewalls, establishing, and maintaining County-wide access policies to the internet

- Performing analysis and collecting data to establish the potential for improvements within the communication networks
- Working with third-party providers to keep the networks running efficiently
- Maintaining the County's phone system and working closely with the phone service provider to keep the lines active

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
This position requires a personable individual who is capable of managing computer networks and utilizing technical abilities relating to computer systems, routing, hardware and software configurations and information security along with communication and problem-solving skills. A core skill of this applicant is project management working with IT Staff as well as other County staff to assist all parties in proper deployment of various IT systems. Applicant must be able to repair, provide maintenance, and troubleshoot Network Servers and Meraki Switches and Routers, Desktop Computers along with OEM devices within the County network. Must be willing to learn new technologies and work in a team environment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
A minimum of 5 years' experience working as a network specialist. A high school diploma or equivalent is required along with additional technical training or related college coursework. Preferable experience includes IT Project management skills, managing and working with complex networks and cyber security. Knowledge of Windows and Windows Server is required. Experience working in a public safety environment such as the Sheriff's Office and Fire and Rescue is desirable.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Duties performed typically in an office setting. Frequent walking, standing, sitting, stooping, lifting up to approximately 30 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment such as technology equipment weighing up to approximately 75 pounds may be required. Frequent operation of a vehicle and office equipment is required. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, and hazards. Contact with staff members is required. Occasional contact with technology professionals may be required. Frequent contact with vendors and other technicians by phone, email, or in person is necessary.
