Are you passionate about connecting communities and making a difference? The Warren-Newport Public Library District is looking for an enthusiastic Engagement Specialist & Spanish Liaison to help strengthen the bond between the Library and our Spanish-speaking residents. In this role, you’ll build relationships with local leaders and organizations, promote library services in Spanish, and ensure that our community has access to the resources and programs they need.
This is a part-time, non-exempt Grade 7 position at 26.5 weekly hours, plus one weekend shift per month. The starting hourly rate is $24.67-$30.84 DOE. Weekday hours are Monday and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Weekend hours are Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Sunday hours are from Labor Day to Memorial Day. Sunday hours are paid at time and a half).
Here's what you'll do:
- Build trusting relationships with leaders, organizations, and faith-based institutions within the Spanish-speaking community.
- Provide culturally sensitive outreach and information about the library's services and programs in Spanish.
- Connect Spanish-speaking community members with relevant library resources and services, ensuring everyone has equal access.
- Collaborate with the Programming & Engagement team to develop and implement a diverse range of multicultural programs and events.
- Work with other library departments to promote inclusive practices and ensure services are delivered in a culturally sensitive manner.
Staff members who work 20 weekly hours are eligible for the following benefits:

Requirements
To thrive in this role, you'll need:
- A Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Public Administration, Community Development, or a related field (preferred), or a minimum of 2 years of experience working with Spanish-speaking communities.
- A strong understanding of the cultural nuances and needs of the Spanish-speaking population.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and public presentation skills, with a focus on building rapport with diverse audiences and actively listening to their needs.
- Fluency in both written and spoken Spanish is required.
