The next President and CEO of Leadership Metro Richmond (LMR) will have an exciting opportunity to shape the future of one of the region's most impactful organizations. LMR Overview
Since 1980, LMR has connected the region's top leaders to "help build a stronger Richmond region." Through immersive programs and hands-on experiences, LMR equips emerging leaders with the skills, knowledge, and connections needed to drive positive change across Richmond and beyond. Participants engage in diverse learning opportunities, tackling critical community issues, and building a powerful network of community-focused professionals, including nonprofit and for-profit leaders, government leaders, and community leaders. With more than 2,000 alumni from Richmond and surrounding counties, LMR's impact is powerful.
Primary Responsibilities
The President and CEO is responsible for all aspects of LMR. Top priorities include:
- Developing and implementing LMR's strategic vision.
- Ensuring financial sustainability through fundraising, program fees, and careful financial management.
- Having a positive impact on the next generation of RVA leaders.
In addition, the President and CEO will be responsible for:
- Creating partnerships with regional organizations and non-traditional communities to advance LMR's mission.
- Enhancing the visibility and public image of LMR through active and visible engagement in the community.
- Cultivating and engaging LMR's alumni network.
- Leading staff and overseeing all operations.
- Working as a partner with the Board to ensure ongoing strength of LMR.
Requirements of the position include a flexible schedule (some evenings and weekends) and limited travel. This is a hybrid position.
Qualifications
The President and CEO must have a passion for developing leaders and making the Richmond region stronger and must fully understand the dynamics of the Richmond region. Beyond that, we recognize that each candidate will bring unique skills and experience. The following provides insight into the background and experience the Board is seeking:
Vision
A leader who has demonstrated their ability to create a vision for their department or organization that increases impact. The RVA region has changed dramatically since LMR's inception. The Board is eager to determine "what's next" for LMR and the region.
Fundraising
Successful fundraising experience that will build on the corporate and foundation support currently in place. LMR has more than 2,000 alumni. There is a need to increase their engagement and commitment to LMR.
Organizational Leadership
LMR has a committed and engaged staff. The next President and CEO will need to support their professional development, so they are prepared to be a part of "what's next."
Additional qualifications include:
- Strong values, including collaboration, inclusion, respect, and continuous learning.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking, interviews, videos, and social media.
- Strong relationship, coalition builder and team collaborator.
- Leadership qualities, including open-mindedness, inclusive decision making, and accountability.
- A proven track record of developing and managing partnerships.
While not a strict requirement, the search committee will look for experience indicators such as:
- Seven (7) or more years in a leadership role that includes managing personnel, finances, operations and governance.
- Bachelor's degree in business leadership or other related field or equivalent work experience. A relevant advanced degree is preferred.
- Experience in the financial management of an organization.
- Nonprofit leadership preferred.
This position offers a starting salary range of $130,000 to $150,000 based on experience, as well as health insurance, a Simple IRA, and annual PTO and holidays.
