Qualifications:
Degree: High School graduate and be eligible to obtain a Teacher Substitute Certificate through DESE.
Preferred Experience:
Some knowledge of library organization; experience with computers and technology; Strong organizational and interpersonal skills; technical aptitude; clerical skills.
Primary Responsibilities:
Perform daily routine work necessary to the operation of the media center; supervise students using the media center; provide technological assistance; set up, maintain, test, and do minor repairs on district computers; provide clerical services.
LIBRARY MEDIA RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists patrons in locating, collecting, and scheduling LMC resources.
Assists in teaching patrons library use skills and computer use skills when necessary.
Maintains circulation routines, shelves books, and other materials as needed.
Inspects, repairs, and processes materials.
Assists with equipment circulation, maintenance, and inventory.
Prepares and maintains correspondence, reports, records, bibliographies, etc.
Performs general housekeeping duties as necessary.
Completes duties and responsibilities as assigned by the LMS or building administrator.
TECHNOLOGICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serves as the building contact person for building technology issues.
Assists with preparation and use of instructional technologies.
Assists with technology equipment inventory. Inspects, maintains, and repairs technology and equipment as requested.
Performs computer set-up and software installation as requested by the MIS.
Troubleshoots building equipment, software, and audiovisual problems.
Assists teachers in the implementation of multimedia.
Completes duties and responsibilities as assigned by building administrator or MIS.
INTERPERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships with students, staff, parents, volunteers, and administrators.
Communicates with LMS, technology staff, and building administration as needed.
Demonstrates an ability to manage time effectively.
Attends building level and district level meetings as requested.
Adheres to and enforces district and building policies as required.
Demonstrates a desire to learn and grow with the district technology and library media program.
Participates in professional growth activities as needed.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
A full time library media assistant is employed for a seven and one-half hour work day at an hourly rate established by the Board of Education for a minimum contract period of 175 days.
All other benefits are as provided for full time employees. In cases where the library media assistant is a partial assignment, benefits are based on total FTE of assignments for the individual.
EVALUATION
Performance of this position will be evaluated by the building administrator in cooperation with the library media specialist according to board policies and adopted procedures for support staff members.
