WOUND CARE NURSE
General Purpose :
Provide direct wound assessments and daily care to residents in the facility. Create treatment plans for residents to prevent any further problems in relation to wound care.
Essential Job Functions :
- Ability to perform wound assessment, reassessment, and management of wounds.
- Prepare and administer medication as ordered by the physician.
- Verify that adequate supply of floor stock medications, supplies, and equipment is on hand to meet the nursing needs of the residents. Report needs to the Nurse Supervisor.
- Deliver and maintain optimum resident care and comfort by demonstrating knowledge and skills of current nursing practices.
- Make rounds with physicians, as necessary.
- Review the resident’s chart for specific treatments, medication orders, diets, etc., as necessary.
- Knowledge of the anatomy, physiology, and disorders of the gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and dermal systems
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of staging system of wounds.
- Develops skin care programs to prevent skin breakdown.
- Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary.
- Documentation meets current standards and practices.
- Assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
- Work shifts on the unit as needed in order to maintain quality and continuum of care for residents and work rotating on-call schedule.
- Perform any other tasks / duties as assigned.
