Job Details

The Deputy Sheriff is responsible for enforcing laws, patrolling designated areas,

investigating crimes, and ensuring public safety in Warrick County, Indiana.


Key
Responsibilities:

  • Law Enforcement: Enforce local, state, and federal laws; investigate crimes; apprehend and process suspects.
  • Patrol Duties: Monitor county roads and areas for security, respond to suspicious activities, and handle emergency situations.
  • Traffic Control: Enforce traffic laws, investigate accidents, and conduct sobriety tests.
  • Crime Investigations: Investigate misdemeanors, felonies, and drug-related offenses; secure evidence and interview witnesses.
  • Public Safety: Provide crowd control during events, respond to alarms, and assist in emergency situations.
  • Court Services:Serve subpoenas, provide courtroom security, and escort detainees.
  • Community Engagement: Organize events, deliver public safety presentations, and build trust within the community.
  • Administrative Tasks: Prepare reports, maintain records, and operate law enforcement tools and equipment.
  • Training and Development: Participate in ongoing in-service training and maintain certifications in law enforcement techniques, CPR, and other required areas.


Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED; Indiana Law Enforcement Academy certification.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
  • Proficiency in using police equipment, communication systems, and standard office tools.
  • Strong physical fitness and the ability to handle high-pressure situations.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws; evidence collection techniques; and law enforcement protocols.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and on-call shifts.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with sensitivity to professional ethics, cultural diversity, and disabilities.

  • Adhere to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate responsiveness and sound decision-making during emergencies.
  • Maintain professionalism and a high standard of conduct when interacting with the public and colleagues.
  • Performance will be evaluated based on adherence to policies, successful completion of duties, and effectiveness in community engagement.

Work Environment:


Duties involve physical activities, such as lifting, running, and climbing, and exposure to adverse weather, loud environments, and potentially violent situations.

Protective equipment and adherence to safety protocols are required. Deputies may work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and must be

prepared to respond to emergencies on a 24-hour rotation basis.


Experience/Qualifications

  • Education:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Experience:
  • Previous experience in law enforcement or a related field preferred but not required.
  • Skills:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under stress and in emergency situations.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills.
  • Physical fitness and readiness to engage in pursuit or defense techniques.
  • Certification:
  • Completion of Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Training as a Law Enforcement Officer.


Salary Information

  • $54,600.00 Annually
