Job Description:
As a Security Officer, Part-Time at Wartburg College, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of our campus community.
Main Responsibilities:
- Patrol the campus by foot and vehicle to identify areas of concern and prevent incidents.
- Lock and unlock buildings as needed to maintain security.
- Monitor mechanical systems, including carbon monoxide levels, boiler status, and utilities.
- Check fire prevention and notification systems to ensure they are functioning properly.
- Provide escorts to students on campus.
- Administer basic first aid, CPR, and transport individuals to clinics or hospitals as necessary.
- Transport valuable items and secure funds as required.
- Take action to prevent or cease crimes in progress within your authority.
- Respond to incidents, initiate reports, and conduct limited investigations.
- Protect crime scenes pending police arrival.
- Contact police when college property is involved in a criminal event or when a student requests their services.
- Take statements from complainants, victims, witnesses, and subjects.
- Collect evidence and photographs as necessary.
- Assist police, fire, rescue, and other public agencies on campus.
- Notify the security director and/or college officials as needed.
- Confiscate prohibited items such as firearms, explosives, alcohol, and illegal drugs.
- Maintain order at college events.
- Respond to fire alarms, check for danger, contact the fire department, reset systems, and authorize residents to re-enter the building when safe.
- Assist visitors, provide directions, and manage lost and found items.
- Recognize blood-borne pathogen contamination situations and take necessary clean-up and decontamination steps.
- Enforce resident hall and student conduct policies in the absence of residence hall staff.
- Assist resident assistants and directors as needed.
- Enforce parking regulations, write parking tickets, and contact towing companies to tow vehicles.
- Perform parking registration duties, including issuing visitor and temporary passes.
- Assist students with vehicle troubles.
- Conduct driving certification tests.
- Assist college employees.
Supervision: You will work independently, referring only unusual cases to the supervisor. Your objectives will be set by the supervisor, requiring the use of various procedures.
Hours: We are primarily seeking applicants who can work 2nd and 3rd shift.
Qualifications: A high school education equivalent and one year of effective experience are required. A valid driver's license and no criminal record are also mandatory. An associate degree is preferred.
