Position Summary
The R&D Project Quality Specialist performs a variety of quality assurance and quality control assignments in support of Research and Development support work performed for the United States Department of Energy (DOE) at the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL). The assignments will be performed in an office, shop and laboratory environments. They include participating in design reviews of engineered systems, reviewing purchase requests, performing inspections and leading functional testing. This individual's home office will be located in Morgantown, WV but they will be asked to travel to the Pittsburgh, PA office as needed (~25%). On rare occasions the individual may be asked to travel to our Albany, Oregon office location.
Responsibilities :
- Performs reviews and provides input on the following.
- Engineered drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with design requirements
- Purchase requests to ensure material compliance with specifications
- Subcontractor statements of work
- Performs / witnesses testing and delivers reports of the following.
- Pressure and leak testing of compressed gas and liquid systems
- Electrical & control system point-to-point
- Functional testing of equipment & systems
- Performs inspections and delivers reports for the following;
- Receipt of materials to ensure material meets ordering requirements
- Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) walkdowns
- Dimensional analysis of single parts & complex assemblies
- Guides and directs lower-level personnel on the set-up and performance of tests.
- Acts as liaison with outside suppliers in establishing or modifying specifications for purchased items.
- Devises and applies testing procedures for parts or sub-assemblies received from outside vendors.
- Participates in the development, maintenance, and refinement of internal quality programs.
- Recommends corrective action to solve quality problems.
- Under general supervision, possesses and applies a broad knowledge of QA / QC principles, practices, and procedures to the completion of difficult assignments.
- Applies advanced quality inspection and test methods, and research techniques in the development, establishment, and maintenance of quality policies, procedures, and methods.
- Perform quality mechanical, electrical and measurement and test equipment assessments for compliance with design requirements as directed by quality management.
- Prepares and maintains quality plans and assessment checklists.
- Verifies quality standards and test procedures for the design and product evaluation to attain quality economically and efficiently.
- Provides quality assurance support to ensure that products are acquired and installed in accordance with customer and company quality requirements.
- Provides recommendations concerning the disposition of defective materials and maintains a continuous awareness of quality problems.
- Identify and train a back-up(s) to manage key tasks when absent.
