Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Assistant Montessori Pre-primary Teacher to join our team. As an Assistant Pre-primary teacher, you will be responsible for educating and nurturing young minds (18 month old - 3 year old children), creating a positive and engaging learning environment, partnering with families effectively, and helping students develop their academic and social skills.
General Responsibilities:
- The assistant is responsible to the lead teacher and will assist in establishing and maintaining a harmonious classroom.
- Will help in establishing and maintaining Montessori classroom culture, paying particular attention to the needs of students.
- Carefully observe each student’s individual progression through the classroom always being available to offer gentle guidance. Report observations to Lead.
- Comfortable with and willing to assist with students' independence needs (including diapering, toileting, self-care, etc.)
- Participate in monthly staff meetings.
- Participate in school events.
Responsibilities to the Lead Teacher:
- To assist the lead teacher with the children in their learning and understanding of the Montessori materials.
- To be informed and carry out duties as assigned by the lead teacher
- To be familiar with the Parent’s Handbook.
- To inform the lead teacher of any classroom difficulties, including discipline, health, equipment needs, repair and maintenance.
- To meet with the lead teacher to discuss goals for the class and individual students.
- Allow Lead to share any sensitive information about student with Parent
Responsibilities to the Children and Parents:
- Keep information confidential.
- Be professional and positive in all dealings with children and parents.
- Share all information from parents with lead teacher.
- Allow the children to be as independent as possible and try not to be an obstacle in their growth.
- Participate in training of after-school teachers and substitute teachers who are working in their classroom and with their students, including but not limited to reviewing the daily schedule, reviewing hygiene and cleaning practices, reviewing acceptable and appropriate discipline strategies, directing and delegating as needed, etc.
Responsibilities to the Classroom:
- Keep classroom tidy
Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Education or related field (preferred)
- Previous experience working in a Montessori classroom (preferred)
- Strong knowledge of childhood development, classroom management techniques, and mentoring strategies
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents/guardians, and community members
