SUMMARY

  • The Department of Biology and Chemistry at Washington Adventist University is seeking a qualified candidate with experience teaching undergraduate Biochemistry, with the associated laboratory course. The lecture session typically meets three times per week (55 min each lecture) and the lab course meets once a week for three hours in the early afternoon.

  • with significant input in course design This appointment may be renewed upon satisfactory review and need.
  • Applicants who meet the required qualifications will be selected for an interview. The
  • decisions to hire an applicant is made at the discretion of the Department.


PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Teach biochemistry lectures and laboratories for majors.
  • Teach pertinent course content using lectures, demonstrations, class discussion, and other appropriate modes of educational delivery that promote educational and learning
  • processes.
  • Prepare course outline and syllabus, develop course and lesson plans, and engage in the
  • selection of textbook and other teaching aids necessary to the instruction of courses.
  • Engage and assist students by providing notes, timely grades, and feedback via a Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Hold three office hours per week (negotiable).
  • Supervise and maintain laboratories and equipment.
  • Supervise lab safety during laboratory sessions, preparation, and clean-up.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s or Ph.D. (preferred) degree in Biochemistry, Chemical Sciences, or a related
  • field from an accredited institution.
  • Ability to integrate technology into course delivery.
  • Ability to conduct independent and collaborative small-scale research projects as part of
  • experimental application for a Biochemistry and/or Independent study course (optional).
  • Ability to communicate and work with a diverse population of students both in and
  • outside the classroom via a LMS platform.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Prior college or university teaching experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of, and commitment to, the university’s philosophy and mission.
