Position: After School STEM Club Facilitator
Schedule: Seasonal April - June 2025. Up to 5 hours per week. This is on-site at schools in Tacoma.
Salary: $30 per hour; this seasonal, temporary position is not eligible for benefits. Employees will receive sick pay at the rate applicable to Washington state laws.

Job Summary
This is a seasonal, part-time position in Tacoma. After School STEM Club Facilitators spend a couple of hours in the afternoon with elementary or middle school students, facilitating pre-designed hands-on STEM activities. Facilitators passionate about working directly with students ages 8-13 and helping inspire them to explore science, technology, engineering, and math in real-world challenges provide weekly, guided sessions and support the in-school teacher with site logistics.
Responsibilities
- Through engaging and age-appropriate communication, deliver a predetermined lesson plan of hands-on STEM activities (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) during a 90-minute after-school club setting in elementary and middle schools.
- Establish and maintain a positive environment for all students. Encourage curiosity, problem-solving skills, and critical thinking in a fun and interactive setting.
- Provide up to 30 minutes of set-up support before the scheduled program start time to support the on-site host.
- Provide up to 15 minutes of breakdown support to the on-site host after each session.
- Engage and support industry volunteers providing session mentorship, as needed.
- Submit a site check-in and check-out with post-session feedback to the supervisor.
Desired Qualifications
- Preferred, 3 years of experience or education in STEM fields or student learning.
- Experience working with children in an educational setting (after-school programs, summer camps, etc.) is a plus.
- Experience delivering hands-on STEM activities to elementary and middle school students is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated:
- Understanding of STEM concepts and principles.
- Excellence in communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to create a positive and engaging learning environment.
- Patience, enthusiasm, and a passion for inspiring young minds.
- Understanding of postsecondary pathways
- People who can speak to their lived experience around racial inequity, oppression, and institutional and/or systemic racism are strongly encouraged to apply

- Ability to lift up to 15lbs
