The Office of Sustainability is seeking a part-time Campus Garden Assistant from June through the end of August. The Campus Garden Assistant will work both independently and alongside the Campus Garden Manager to help maintain the W&L Campus Garden.

Essential Functions:
- Assist with all aspects of sustainable food production, from seeding to delivering produce to on-campus venues.
- Perform hand weeding in flower and vegetable beds.
- Plant and harvest a diverse selection of at least 20 vegetables and a dozen flowers, integrating compost and mulch to enhance soil health and crop yield.
- Implement proper watering techniques, determining frequency, duration, and the optimal time of day to ensure healthy plant growth.
- Mow garden areas as needed.
- Operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools, including shovels, pruners, loppers, rakes, string trimmers, and push mowers, ensuring they remain in safe working condition.
Work Schedule: Flexibility in Weekly Work Schedule, 10 – 20 hours per week.
Hourly Rate: $17.75
Minimum Qualifications:
- Prior horticulture or gardening experience is preferred
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions for an extended period of time is required.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Committed to following safety guidelines to protect self and others.
- Independent and self-motivated.
- Must possess a valid Virginia driver’s license and a good driving history.
