What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrician Maintenance Tech/Electrician position at Washington and Lee University?
This position will assist in all aspects of the electrical trade. Primary duties involve assisting skilled tradesmen in duties necessary to operate and maintain University electrical systems efficiently and reliably to provide a comfortable environment in classrooms, laboratories, and offices on campus.

Essential Functions :
- Maintains a variety of electrical system equipment, components and fixtures.
- Diagnoses malfunctioning systems, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and equipment schematics.
- Inspects electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
- Tests electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using various testing devices to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
- Installs / upgrades new electrical equipment and fixtures as required including conduit and raceway installation for new circuitry in conformity with National Electrical Code (NEC) and local building codes.
- Collaborates with other trade workers on projects that are incidental to electrical work.
- Responds to work order requests in a timely manner and maintains appropriate service logs and records for the purpose of documenting activities and / or conveying information.
- Complies with all Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMSCA) Alcohol and Drug Free Workplace Safety Sensitive regulations and corresponding University policies and procedures.
- Ability to work from a variety of heights using ladders, scaffolding or man lifts.
- Supports campus wide activities in the areas of setup, snow and ice removal and any other duties as assigned.
- Additional related duties as assigned.

Minimum Pay : $27.21 Candidates with significant experience may be considered at the Electrician level with the corresponding pay grade.
Physical Requirements :
Fingering : Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm as in handling.
Grasping : Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
Repetitive motions : Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and / or fingers.

Working Conditions :
The worker is subject to both environmental conditions : Activities occur inside and outside.
The worker frequently is in close quarters, crawl spaces, shafts, man holes, small enclosed rooms, small sewage and water line pipes, and other areas which could cause claustrophobia.
Types of Work : Medium work : Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and / or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
