What are the responsibilities and job description for the Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) Program position at Washington Area Community Investment Fund?
We are seeking visionary and experienced entrepreneurs to join our Sustainability DC Project Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) program. As an EIR, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the next generation of sustainability-focused entrepreneurs by advising businesses, developing impactful programs, and fostering innovation in the green economy. This program offers a competitive stipend and a unique opportunity to drive the transition to clean energy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and advance sustainable practices, especially in Washington DC Wards 5, 7, and 8.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Program Development:
- Design and implement programs that support entrepreneurs with businesses in sustainability.
- Create workshops, training modules, and resources to address the unique challenges faced by sustainability startups.
- Collaborate with organizational stakeholders to align program goals with broader sustainability and business development objectives.
2. Mentorship and Advisory:
- Provide one-on-one coaching and strategic advice to entrepreneurs in the program, helping them navigate challenges in sustainable business growth.
- Share insights and best practices for integrating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles into business operations.
- Facilitate connections between program participants and industry leaders, potential investors, and collaborators in the sustainability sector.
3. Thought Leadership:
- Act as a thought leader and advocate for sustainability entrepreneurship within the organization and the broader community.
- Deliver talks, write articles, and participate in events to raise awareness about the green economy and sustainable business opportunities.
- Promote innovative solutions and strategies to accelerate the adoption of clean energy, sustainable materials, and emissions reduction.
4. Ecosystem Building:
- Cultivate partnerships with stakeholders in the sustainability space, including government agencies, non-profits, investors, and academic institutions.
- Foster a supportive and collaborative community for entrepreneurs working towards environmental impact.
- Identify and leverage resources to advance the program’s mission.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proven experience as a founder, co-founder, or leader in sustainability-focused ventures or industries (e.g., clean energy, sustainable food and drink, green technology, retail, construction, environmental consulting, cleaning, event planning).
- Deep understanding of sustainability principles, green economy dynamics, and challenges faced by eco-friendly businesses.
- Strong mentorship and advisory skills, with a track record of supporting established entrepreneurs.
- Experience designing and implementing entrepreneurial programs or initiatives.
- Exceptional communication and leadership abilities, with a passion for driving environmental impact.

Sustainable DC Project is an innovative and disruptive economic mobility strategy designed to help DC's BIPOC and women-owned small businesses grow and build resilience by implementing sustainable practices and/or pivoting to sustainable industries. Through the Sustainable DC Project, Wacif and CNHED will support small businesses with capacity building, green certification and procurement, and provide access to capital.
