Office: Primarily remote, with frequent travel to field & event sites.
The Washington Area Frisbee Club (WAFC) is seeking a Director of Operations to manage our 30 annual leagues and events for adult and youth members. This position will work alongside the Manager of Marketing, Outreach, & Youth Special Programs to fulfill WAFC’s nonprofit mission. The incumbent will assume responsibility for daily program operations from outgoing staff.
Candidates should have exceptional event planning and communication skills, a demonstrated ability to work in a volunteer-driven environment, and a strong commitment to promote the sport of ultimate. The Director of Operations will report directly to WAFC’s Board of Directors and work collaboratively alongside other staff and several dozen volunteer leaders.
Job Responsibilities
Duties of the Director of Operations include:
- Plan, manage and improve WAFC’s seasonal leagues, tournaments, and events.
- Obtain rental permits for regional fields and facilities to host WAFC events.
- Supervise, recruit, train, and support WAFC volunteers and coaches.
- Manage and oversee the work of other staff and/or key volunteers.
- Manage the purchase, distribution, and maintenance of WAFC equipment and merchandise.
- Develop and maintain external relationships with local parks & recreation authorities, peer organizations, and stakeholders from the regional and national ultimate communities.
- Support the budgeting process for WAFC’s annual operations and individual events.
- Create, revise, document, and enforce WAFC operational policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Develop and contribute to reports for WAFC’s Board of Directors and its general membership.
- Assist in the coordination of WAFC marketing and outreach efforts.
- Provide customer service to WAFC members.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Candidates must demonstrate a knowledge and passion for WAFC’s mission and an ability to articulate that mission and promote enthusiasm toward volunteers and stakeholders. Candidates must be able to demonstrate:
- Exceptional event planning skills, particularly recreational sports events.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Technological proficiency, including Microsoft Office, Discord, and Slack.
- Excellent organizational skills, including meticulous attention to detail.
- Proven ability to handle dynamic and challenging situations and manage conflict.
- Demonstrated ability to work productively across disciplines and with people of differing views and backgrounds.
- A strong work ethic and capacity for self-motivation without extensive supervision.
- A desire to grow the sport of ultimate in the Washington, DC area.
Candidates must be able to pass a criminal and SafeSport child abuse background check.
This position requires the use of a vehicle, the ability to lift objects above 25 pounds, and frequent work on weekends and evenings.
