Recovery Support Staff
Job Title: Recovery Support Staff Status: Part time, Non-exempt
Reports to: Director of Residential Services Division: Women & Children Date: April 2025
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Reporting to the Women’s RSS Coordinator, the RSS Coordinator is responsible for fostering and facilitating growth towards RSS Staff and the independence of residents of the City Mission. RSS Staff develop a sense of community among residents as members living in the houses. The RSS Coordinator serves as a positive role model to residents and enforces the rules and regulation of the City Mission.
Knowledge, Skills, and abilities: an individual must have the ability to communicate well in group and individual situations; establish rapport with residents and other staff; establish and maintain boundaries. One main roll of the RSS Coordinator is to provide a safe environment for the residents to reside in.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Complete initial interviews for all RSS Staff and report back to the Human Resources Administrator
- Conduct staff meetings for all RSS Staff and RA staff a minimum of 1x/month
- Create and monitor Monthly RSS Staff and RA schedule
- Maintain daily census for the City Mission shared on Mission Tracker
- Monitor random health and safety inspections of resident rooms
- Completion of house rounds a minimum of three times per shift to ensure safety and to ensure that residents are complying with programming
- Operate as a first responder to any emergency that may arise at the City Mission
- Complete initial orientation for all new residents to Men’s Program (including, but not limited to the following: verbal overview of the program, temporary bed assignment, provision of bed linens)
- Submit product needs list to appropriate staff
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy environment for the residents
- Assist in the monitoring of resident attendance at mandatory activities including, but not limited to the following: Daily Roll Call, Class, Group, Training Site and/or Internship Site
- Complete Corrective Action Reports for program noncompliance
- Communicate any resident concerns to appropriate House Coordinator
- Complete “Daily Log” for each resident while on shift (concerns, observations, activity, etc.)
- In some cases monitor resident medication management through the observation of residents taking medication
- Collect and test urine samples from residents, documenting results and immediately documenting in Clienttrack
- Provide support, encouragement and prayer to residents as needed
- Work collaboratively with other City Mission staff and volunteers as needed
- Attend all scheduled staff meetings and trainings as designated by supervisor
- Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor
- Supervise and monitor work performance of RSS Staff and provide necessary training pertaining to essential job duties
- Track all drug testing results
- Ensure program guidelines are being followed by all residents
- Provide supervision and training to RSS Staff of City Mission
- Provide supervisory support to volunteers of City Mission as needed
- Facilitate resident classes and/or groups
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Committed Christian with a heart for the homeless and a desire to share the ministry of CM with others
- Highly ethical, trustworthy, and professional
- Organized with good analytical and decision-making abilities
- Team player, active participant in CM ministry
- Levelheaded, purposeful in reactions, proactive in problem-solving.
- Computer skills, to complete intakes, update items in our system
- Complete shift reports, and fill out the log book
- Current driver’s license, with ability to drive at night
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Associates degree preferred but will accept five years of related experience working with the homeless, addicted and/or mentally ill population. Six Months supervisory experience required.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL FACTORS:
- Work is primarily indoors and will require climbing stairs, sitting, standing, bending, reaching, and walking – frequently.
- All Resident Support Specialists must possess the ability to climb three flights of stairs (in a relatively quick manner) a minimum of 3 times in any 8-hour period of time.
- Carrying up to 40 pounds up and down stairs, up to three flights of stairs – occasionally.
- Requires working with a diverse population, many of whom struggle with homelessness, addiction and mental illness – continuously.
- Environment may be odorous due to lack of personal hygiene and intoxication of guests – frequently.
- Requires a sustained level of high energy, stamina, and the ability to move about all of the facilities on a regular and ongoing basis – frequently.
- Involved in the collection of urine specimens – occasionally.
