BUS DRIVER JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Bus Driver FLSA: Non-Exempt
Reports To: Transportation Director/ CFO
Job Summary: The Bus Driver is responsible for the safe, professional, and efficient operation of passenger vehicles. This role ensures the timely transportation of clients while maintaining compliance with all applicable traffic laws and organizational procedures. The Bus Driver operates under the supervision of the Transportation Director and may receive additional guidance from other management and office personnel.
Job Duties:
Examples of work include, but are not limited to the following:
- Conduct thorough pre-trip inspections, reporting any vehicle defects and ensuring cleanliness.
- Pick up, transport, and discharge passengers in accordance with established procedures.
- Maintain order and discipline among passengers to ensure a safe environment.
- Ensure proper collection of fares or other payments if required.
- Adhere to prescribed schedules while maintaining flexibility for operational needs.
- Foster positive passenger relations through courteous and professional interactions.
- Prepare and submit required reports in an accurate and timely manner.
- Perform related duties as assigned to support transportation operations.
Work Hours: Position reports as defined by agency needs, flexibility desired.
Required Skills:
Thorough knowledge and skills listed below are requirements of this position:
- Strong understanding of safe driving principles and vehicle operation.
- Knowledge of DMV, DOT, and PSC traffic laws and regulations governing passenger transportation.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in emergency and routine driving situations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with passengers and staff.
- Ability to follow schedules, policies, and procedures consistently.
Additional Qualifications:
The following are additional qualifications desired by CAC to meet the job needs:
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
- Must be able to sit for extended periods while operating a vehicle.
- Requires occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. (e.g., assisting passengers with mobility devices).
- Exposure to varying weather conditions while assisting passengers or inspecting the vehicle.
Education/ Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with passenger endorsement, as required by state regulations.
- Clean driving record with no major infractions.
- Ability to obtain a PSC license in the State of Maryland.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
