Maintenance Worker II
PURPOSE OF JOB DESCRIPTION:
The primary purpose of this job position is to perform a variety of maintenance duties, many of which require physical labor and professional judgment, and ensure they are performed in accordance with governmental standards and regulations.
JOB FUNCTIONS:

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: MUST PERFORM:
--Must perform advance carpentry skills to include new construction and remodeling
--Must know how to follow architectural plans and specifications
--Must have knowledge of city and state building codes
MINOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: MUST PERFORM:
--Grounds keeping for all hospital properties-including sweeping, picking up trash, cutting grass, trimming grass, trimming shrubs, landscaping, snow removal, etc.
--Major and minor carpentry, painting {interior and exterior) and wallpapering
--Corrective maintenance procedures including repairs and upkeep of equipment and hospital assets.
--Major and minor plumbing repairs and use of sewer augers as instructed.
--Major and minor preventive maintenance procedures.
--other job duties as assigned by supervisor.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
-Works throughout all hospital properties.
--Stands, bends, lifts, stretches, and moves intermittently during work hours.
--Must be able to endure strenuous activity in weather extremes.
--Involved with patients, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc.,under all conditions and circumstances.
--Communicates with administration, medical staff, nursing personnel and other department supervisors.
--is willing to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
--Attends and participates in in-services designed to keep abreast of changes in the profession.
--Will work with infectious waste, diseases, conditions, specimens, Bio-hazards, etc.
--Willing to be “0n call" on a weekly rotating shift.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
--Maintenance Worker II must have strong mechanical skills, construction trade skills, and the flexibility to do all maintenance tasks that the hospital presents.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:
--Must be able to read and write the English language in a legible and understandable manner.
--Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
--Must possess the ability to verbally communicate with hospital departments and patients in person and by telephone.
--Must possess the ability to deal tactfully and politely with personnel patients, family members, visitors, government agencies personnel, and the general public.
--Must be knowledgeable of maintenance practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to the hospital care.
--Must possess ability and willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.
--Must have patience, tact, and a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm.
--Must have a valid driver's license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
--Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.
--Must be able to lift lOOibs.to a height of waist level.
--Must be physically able to climb ladders to a height of 30 feet.
--Must be able to respond immediately for emergency maintenance jobs.
--Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner.
--Must be able to cope with the physical, mental and emotional stress of the position.
--Must be able to see and hear, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met. Must not be color blind.
--Must function independently, have flexibility, person integrity, and the ability to work effectively with patients, visitors and personnel.
