Psychotherapist – Community Support Program

Barre, VT Full Time
POSTED ON 1/30/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 3/29/2025
For more than 50 years, Washington County Mental Health Services (WCMHS) has served the Washington County community and the Orange County towns of Orange, Washington, and Williamstown. WCMHS provides education, support, and treatment of individuals and families living with mental health challenges, substance use issues, and developmental and intellectual disabilities. Providing accessible, high-quality services in the community, schools, and health care settings, we work toward positive outcomes for wellness with collaborative, inclusive, and compassionate care. Washington County Mental Health Services is “Where Hope and Support Come Together.”
Position: WCMHS is seeking a Psychotherapist – Community Support Program (CSP Counseling Services and DBT Services). This is an excellent opportunity to build clinical skills while being supervised and supported by experienced clinicians. The position is shared, allowing the clinician to provide both community-based psychotherapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Part of the position involves joining a team that has been together for close to 35 years and in many respects has been a pioneer in the provision of recovery-oriented and strength-based psychotherapy services. This model incorporates a blend of both office and outreach-based modalities that are custom designed to effectively meet the needs of our clients and to reduce the obstacles that might interfere with the development of a therapeutic connection and relationship. The other part of the position involves providing DBT services supported by a dedicated team that includes many of the lead trainers for DBT in Vermont. DBT involves using multiple strategies to help clients reduce problematic coping within an accepting and validating therapy relationship. Washington County Mental Health Services was among the first programs in the country to implement DBT and the successful applicant will benefit from training and support to develop competence with this model. Both teams offer the advantage of a strong collaborative spirit, a dedicated and committed work ethic to provide high quality services, and a good sense of humor, while also affording the clinician a significant degree of independence and autonomy.

Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in a mental health/behavioral health discipline.
  • Licensure or license eligible as a Mental Health Professional (Licensure supervision is available as a part of this position). Minimum of two years' experience providing clinical services to clients dealing with severe and persistent mental health issues.
  • Experience or training in DBT preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, possess an excellent driving record, and have access to a safe, reliable, insured vehicle.
Physical Requirements: The role may involve the following physical requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and standing during therapy sessions and administrative tasks.
  • Effective verbal communication, including the ability to clearly convey information both in-person and over the phone.
  • Basic manual dexterity to handle documentation and computer-related tasks.
  • Mobility to move within the office environment and between different work locations.
  • Services are provided in the office and via teleconference.
  • This position is full-time (40 hours per week).
You May be a Good Fit:
Knowledge and experience with, or an interest in developing and learning further skills in, Co-occurring treatment, Collaborative Network Approach (Open Dialogue) would be a plus. A good sense of humor also a valuable quality for this position. Interest in being an integral part of a team approach with an emphasis on a recovery and strength-based philosophy and practice.

Compensation and Benefits: This full-time position offers an hourly rate of $25.72/hr and excellent benefits, including tuition reimbursement/student loan assistance; generous paid time off; employer-sponsored health, dental, life, and disability insurances; and a 403(b)-retirement plan with employer match.

To Apply: We encourage applicants to apply via the WCMHS website Careers page. Applications (resume and cover letter, preferred) may also be emailed to recruitment@wcmhs.org or mailed via USPS mail to WCMHS Human Resources, PO Box 647, Montpelier, VT 05601.
