Role Overview
To assist the administration in maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for the school community. Assists in screening students entering the school from the portable classrooms, ensuring student attendance in class, and other responsibilities related to school security operations. Receives guidance and assistance from the Safety Security Manager on the more difficult and unusual situations.
Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma/GED.
Has completed the Maryland Center for School Safety Security Position Training, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment.
Has obtained First Aid and CPR training, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment.
Ability to work extended workdays, as necessary.
Ability to communicate effectively and calmly with staff and students.
Regular and predictable attendance are an essential function of this position.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
Preferred Qualifications
Associates Degree.
Two (2) of experience as a police officer.
Demonstrated knowledge of behavior management techniques.
Role Responsibilities
Completes checks of hallways, restrooms, cafeterias, parking lots, athletic fields and remote sections of school buildings and grounds.
Intervenes in student altercations and secures areas for the safety of students and staff.
Engages students during class periods to ensure that they are engaged in classrooms.
Confers with students exhibiting inappropriate behavior to obtain voluntary compliance with school handbook rules and procedures.
Monitor building practices and conditions that may interfere with building security.
Monitor and review visitor safety practices.
Initiates contact with visitors to the school building or grounds that have not been appropriately approved by the school office.
Monitor Class exchanges specifically in areas of vulnerability such as from portable classrooms.
Monitor camera systems and radio communications.
Maintain records of communications made with students and visitors.
Report unusual incidents to building administration and the School Resource Officer.
Assists School Resource Officers and Administration with safety and security training.
Adjusts hours as necessary to cover evening athletic events, which may mean alternating start times and or working additional hours at the request of school administration.

Ability to withstand weather conditions as may be required to patrol and/or secure school grounds outside of the school building.

Salary : $25 - $45
