Description of Work
Washington County Schools are currently accepting applications for a Licensed Sign Language Interpreters, to work with a hearing impaired student in the regular school setting. The primary focus of this position is to provide interpreting services for a student who has been diagnosed with a hearing impairment. The ideal candidate works well with others, works well under pressure, and is extremely flexible with scheduling and shifting tasks.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:- Interpreting in a variety of educational situations
- Rendering manually, orally or in writing a deaf person's message
- Interpreting, transliterating, and signing to voice interpreting
- Assessing the communication skills level of clients and exercising judgment in determining the services to be provide
Salary TBD and possibly commensurate with experience-
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

- NC Interpreter and Transliterator License
- Experience providing sign language interpreting services in an educational setting

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in an interpreter training program from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of professional interpreting experience in education is preferred.
Necessary Special Qualification:
Meets the requirements for licensure as determined by the North Carolina Interpreter and Transliterator Licensing Board.-
