Position Summary
Washington County Road Department is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to add to our team. The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for, but not limited to operating and maintaining various types of heavy equipment.
Essential Functions
- Operate various types of heavy equipment for county infrastructure projects such as road construction, maintenance, and repair.
- Safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment according to project requirements and specifications.
- Load, unload, and transport materials using heavy equipment in a manner that minimizes risks and ensures the integrity of the materials being moved.
- Conduct routine equipment inspections to ensure proper functioning and address any maintenance.
- Monitor and report any issues, malfunctions, or potential safety hazards to maintenance supervisor.
- Maintain accurate records of daily activities, including fuel usage, maintenance logs, and work progress.
- Perform all duties in compliance with safety guidelines and procedures.
- Report to work with regular and consistent attendance.
- Perform other duties as directed and assigned.
- Ability to be “on-call” during winter weather events to respond promptly to emergency snow removal situations.
- Ability to respond to emergency situations, such as winter storms or accidents, to clear roads promptly and ensure the safety of the community.

Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license with a clean motor vehicle record (Required)
- Valid CDL (Preferred)
- One (1) year of heavy equipment operation experience or related work experience (Preferred)
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test and participate in random drug testing throughout employment (Required).
- Preference shall be given to the qualifying veteran if two or more equally qualified candidates are being considered for the position. Washinton County requires that you submit a copy of your Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, DD-214 (Member 4 Copy), or other official documentation from a branch of the Armed Forces or VA showing dates of service and type of discharge.
