Crab Harvest Sampling Technician – Washington Coast

We’re looking for a Crab Harvest Sampling Technician to join our team based out of the Montesano office, monitoring recreational crabbing effort at access sites along Washington’s stunning coast. This is a field-based position where you'll work outdoors—interviewing crabbers, counting boats and pots, collecting biological data on crab species, and recording harvest data that informs sustainable fishery management. You’ll drive a 4x4 truck to beaches, docks, and boat launches, work weekends and holidays during peak crabbing season, and represent WDFW in coastal communities. Customer service experience or any background working with the public is highly desirable—we value those who can connect with people and communicate clearly in the field.
What We’re Looking For:
🎓 Experience or education in biology, fisheries, or a related field
🚗 Valid driver’s license and comfort driving a 4x4 pickup on beaches
🦀 Familiarity with crab fishing methods and coastal species
🌊 Willingness to work outdoors in all conditions – weekends, holidays, and long hours during peak seasons
